Is the spectrum of highly excited mesons purely coulombian?

2008

We show that a static central potential may provide a precise description of highly excited light unflavoured mesons. Due to string breaking this potential becomes of chromoelectric type at sufficiently large quark-antiquark distances giving rise to a coulombian spectrum. The same conclusion can be inferred for any other meson sector through a straightforward extension of our analysis.

Reassessing the discovery potential of theB→K*ℓ+ℓ−decays in the large-recoil region: SM challenges and BSM opportunities

We critically examine the potential to disentangle the Standard Model (SM) and new physics (NP) in $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and $B\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays, focusing on (i) the LHCb anomaly, (ii) the search for right-handed currents, and (iii) lepton-universality violation. Restricting ourselves to the large-recoil region, we advocate a parametrization of the hadronic matrix elements that separates model-independent information about nonperturbative QCD from the results of model calculations. Plant viruses move through plasmodesmata to infect new cells. The plant endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is interconnected among cells via the ER desmotubule in the plasmodesma across the cell wall, forming a continuous ER network throughout the entire plant. This ER continuity is unique to plants and has been postulated to serve as a platform for the intercellular trafficking of macromolecules. In the present study, the contribution of the plant ER membrane transport system to the intercellular trafficking of the NSm movement protein and Tomato spotted wilt tospovirus (TSWV) is investigated. Recombinant human erythropoietin increases the radiosensitivity of xenografted human tumours in anaemic nude mice

Purpose: The effect of recombinant human erythropoietin (Epo) on the radiosensitivity of human tumour xenografts growing in anaemic nude mice was studied. Methods and materials: Anaemia was induced by total body irradiation (TBI) of mice prior to tumour transplantation. The development of anaemia was prevented by Epo (1000 U/kg s.c.) given 3 times weekly starting 2 weeks prior to TBI (5 Gy). Epo treatment did not influence the growth rate of the tumours, which were transplanted into the subcutis of the hind leg of mice. Thirteen days after TBI (tumour volume of approx. 40 mm3), a single-dose irradiation (12 Gy) of the tumour was performed resulting in a growth delay with subsequent regrowth…

We consider a two-point boundary value problem of second-order random differential equation. Using a variant of the α-ψ-contractive type mapping theorem in metric spaces, we show the existence of at least one solution.

The effect of fractal contact lenses on peripheral refraction in myopic model eyes.

Purpose: To test multizone contact lenses in model eyes: Fractal Contact Lenses (FCLs), designed to induce myopic peripheral refractive error (PRE). Methods: Zemax ray-tracing software was employed to simulate myopic and accommodation-dependent model eyes fitted with FCLs. PRE, defined in terms of mean sphere M and 90–180 astigmatism J180, was computed at different peripheral positions, ranging from 0 to 35 in steps of 5, and for different pupil diameters (PDs). Measuring the impact of regional export promotion: The Spanish case

This article estimates the effect of Spanish regional trade agencies abroad on exports using the gravity model. The results indicate that regional agencies increase trade. The estimated impact seems to be larger than that of Spanish embassies and consulates. Moreover, a dis- aggregated analysis shows that this effect is not evenly distributed across Spanish regions. Genomic insights into the different layers of gene regulation in yeast.

The model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae has allowed the development of new functional genomics techniques devoted to the study of transcription in all its stages. With these techniques, it has been possible to find interesting new mechanisms to control gene expression that act at different levels and for different gene sets apart from the known cis-trans regulation in the transcription initiation step.
